Intel Identifies Chipset Design Error, Implementing Solution

As part of ongoing quality assurance, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the Intel 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point, and has implemented a silicon fix.

In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel's latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.

The new application called “Near,” developed specifically for this service and the network, will be pre-installed in the system to let users find out what their friends in the vicinity are playing now or what they were playing recently. Users can meet their friends and new players virtually, regardless of what games they are playing, simply by sharing their game information across different dimensions of time and distance.

New Game Medium

NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.

NGP will also come equipped with two cameras on its front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy the world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) today unveiled “PlayStation Suite” (PS Suite), delivering the PlayStation experience to Android  (2.3 required)based portable devices. Through this entirely new initiative, users will be able to enjoy PlayStation content on an open operating system for the first time in PlayStation history.

In the dramatically evolving and diversifying mobile market, the number of users who enjoy games casually on a variety of devices including mobile phones, smart-phones and tablet PCs, has been increasing significantly. By offering “PlayStation quality” content to this rapidly growing market, SCE will not only deliver the PlayStation experience to a wider base of users around the globe, but will also be able to offer game developers and publishers the potential to further expand their business opportunities to these devices.

Google brings Cloud Print for mobile documents and Gmail for mobile (beta), which will be rolling out to users throughout the next few days.

Now you can print important document from your smartphone. Just open a document in Google Docs or an email in Gmail in your mobile browser and choose “Print” from the dropdown menu in the top right corner. You can also print certain kinds of email attachments (such as .pdf or .doc) by clicking the “Print” link that appears next to them.

Mobile Payment Debut Nationally at Starbucks

Starbucks announced the launch of mobile payment in all U.S. company-operated stores, allowing customers to pay for in-store purchases with select smartphones. Building on the earlier introduction of Starbucks Card Mobile App for select BlackBerry smartphones, iPhone and iPod touch and a successful mobile payment test program, customers now have access to the largest mobile payment program in the U.S and the fastest way to pay at Starbucks. This national program now includes nearly 6,800 company-operated stores and more than 1,000 Starbucks in U.S. Target locations.

In addition to engaging a loyal base of several million cardholders with the offering, Starbucks anticipates mobile payment will be a draw for customers looking to experience the speed, ease and convenience of paying with their mobile phone. "Today, one in five Starbucks transactions is made using a Starbucks Card and mobile payment will extend the way our customers experience and use their Starbucks Card," said Brady Brewer, vice president Starbucks Card and Brand Loyalty. "With mobile payment, the Starbucks Card platform further elevates the customer experience by delivering convenience, rewarding loyalty and continuing to build an emotional connection with our customers."

To experience mobile payment at Starbucks, customers just need to download the free Starbucks Card Mobile App for select BlackBerry smartphones, iPhone or iPod touch mobile devices. Steve Jobs take medical leave from Apple

Apple's CEO Steve Jobs is taking a medical leave from work, his second in as many years, with Tim Cook filling his role during that time.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today sent the following email to all Apple employees:

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

iPad 2, iPhone 5 and Apple TV 3 Hardware Specs leaked

Engadget got some concrete information from reliable sources about the next iPad, iPhone and, surprisingly, a third iteration of the company’s hobby - the Apple TV.

iPad 2 

iPad 2 will feature dual cameras, a “super high-resolution” display, an SD card slot (placed where it was believed iPad 2 had a larger speaker built-in), and a dual GSM/CDMA chip made by Qualcomm.

iPhone 5

iPhone 5 -- a completely redesigned handset running atop Apple's new A5 CPU (a Cortex A9-based, multi-core chip). This device, like the iPad 2, will feature a Qualcomm chipset that does triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor.

Apple TV 3

Apple TV 3--the second generation of its redesigned Apple TV, which will include that new A5 processor. The CPU is said to be blazingly fast, cranking out 1080p video “like running water.”

HTC HD2 running Windows Phone 7

If you are a proud owner of the HD2 and don’t mind flashing ROMs then good news for you guys, Dark Force Steam (DFT) after five months of research and development team, and finally succeeded in HD2 run on straight brush WP7. At the end of the post there are must watch videos in which whole process is demonstrated from flashing to its actually running.

How Much it Works…

  • System starts quickly, after flashing the first boot needs about 20 seconds up to start settings.
  • Battery can be charged normally in WP7 OS. Testers reports that power consumption is normal.
  • Phone functions are working: call answer, dial without problems and good sound quality, speaker volume is very large, volume +,- keys works fine. During a call when you can adjust the volume.
  • SMS send and receive works without problems, display Chinese symbols right.
  • Import contacts from the SIM card works, the Chinese text displayed correctly, contact editing all normal. Setting ringtone working.
  • Camera works, all the features available, including the 720P video. (Photo-Flash sync is slightly buggy, better make photos without flash)
  • WiFi turn on, turn off, fast, and works for available networks properly, unable to make detailed settings (common WP7 system issue).
  • Bluetooth functional normally, but have not detailed settings (common WP7 system issue)
  • Program interface and system UI works correctly, features fully stocked.
  • The system date, time, normal, alarm clock works correctly.
  • Calendar have all functionality.
  • Internet Explorer all functions works, up to 6 pages possible. Multi-touch works.
  • Office - all functions are available.
  • The music and video player works.
  • Image management is normal. Picture view works, including multi-touch.
  • Lock screen interfaces works normally, show event reminders, wallpaper, and appear on screen quickly after power button press, everything OK.
  • Sync with the Zune works/normal.
  • USB function can be achieved (by modifying the registry on the PC side), you can read, write, everything works.
  • Normal gravity sensing, gravity sensing screen rotation, screen very smooth transition. Accelerometer works, autorotation works with beautiful effects.
  • Automatic screen brightness control, manual control is normal. Screen brightness control can be manually controlled. Automatic works fine too.
  • Theme set to normal. Ability to choose custom wallpaper works. Lock screen, unlock the normal, including password settings.
