Google+ Hangouts comes to Gmail, replacing Gmail video chat

Google plus video chat

Google today began rolling out Google+ Hangouts functionality to Gmail, replacing (upgrading) old Gmail video chat. The biggest difference between two is that unlike old video chat, which was based on peer-to-peer technology, the upgraded service will offer higher reliability and enhanced quality by utilizing the power of Google's network.

Google plus Hangouts to Gmail

According to Google, this upgrade will benefit all the Gmail users but if you and the person you're chatting with also use Google+, you’ll get even more from the Hangouts experience. And the coolest part is you'll be able to video chat with up to nine people at once, watch YouTube videos together, collaborate on Google documents and share your screen.

HTC Explains Why the Desire HD won't be getting Android 4.0 ICS

HTC Android 4.0 ICS upgrade

Few months back HTC Desire HD owners were promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update but the company has broken its promise and officially announced that the Desire HD won't be getting Android 4.0, despite the fact that phone packing hardware similar to its newer phones that run on ICS.

The Taiwanese handset manufacturer might felt your pain and the need to give further explanation to Desire HD owners, claiming that they have a good reason for denying Android 4.0 ICS upgrade.

According to HTC, due to how storage on the HTC Desire HD is partitioned – and the larger size of Android 4.0 – it would require re-partitioning device storage and overwriting user data in order to install this update. While technically advanced users might find this solution acceptable, the majority of customers would not. We also considered ways to reduce the overall size of the software package, but this would impact features and functionality that customers are currently using. Even after installing the update, there were other technical limitations which we felt negatively impacted the user experience.

What do you think above explanation from HTC is enough to please HTC Desire HD owners waited for Android 4.0 ICS upgrade?

The following HTC devices are confirmed to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:

  • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
  • HTC Amaze 4G
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC EVO Design 4G
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Sensation XL
  • HTC Sensation 4G
  • HTC Sensation XE
  • HTC Raider
  • HTC Rezound
  • HTC Rhyme

Office for Mac 2011 ready for Mountain Lion

mountain lion office for mac 2011

Microsoft announced that the Office for Mac 2011 (and Office 2008 for Mac) is ready for Apple's latest OS X Mountain Lion. But the only problem remaining is the inability to manually download and install future updates because of Mountain Lion's new feature called Gatekeeper.

Gatekeeper protect users by allowing you to choose to only download and install software from known developers but due to its architecture, updates will not run when you download and initiate them on your desktop.

To keep your Office for Mac updated, Microsoft recommends that you use Microsoft AutoUpdate.

Amazon Announce the Big Fall Books Preview

big fall preview

Amazon today announced its Big Fall Books Preview. In anticipation of the publishing season that’s known for some of the most exciting debuts, well-regarded nonfiction and blockbuster fiction, the Amazon Books Editors have made their selections for fall’s ten most intriguing releases. Their Big Fall Books Preview also features the season’s most anticipated releases in fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks, biographies and mysteries, along with the most exciting upcoming releases for kids and teens.

Below are the Amazon Books Editors’ picks for the 10 most intriguing books of Fall, listed alphabetically by author:

  • “Telegraph Avenue” by Michael Chabon: The beloved author of “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay” returns with a knowing story of life in politically correct northern California.
  • “America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t” by Stephen Colbert: According to the author and TV phenomenon, this one might “singlebookedly pull this country back from the brink.”
  • “The Twelve (Book Two of The Passage Trilogy)” by Justin Cronin: In a world ravaged by the vampire apocalypse that spread in “The Passage,” survivors band together to eradicate the origins of the virus.
  • “Winter of the World: Book Two of the Century Trilogy” by Ken Follett: The follow-up to “Fall of Giants” is a doorstop of a tale of World War II and the nuclear age.
  • “Flight Behavior” by Barbara Kingsolver: Global warming has never been so fascinating—or beautiful—as in this novel by the renowned author of “The Poisonwood Bible.”
  • “The Casual Vacancy” by J.K. Rowling: The very definition of “highly anticipated,” this blackly comic tale of a town in trouble is the Harry Potter creator’s first book expressly for adults.
  • “Joseph Anton: A Memoir” by Salman Rushdie: From the celebrated novelist, the true-life tale of hiding for his life.
  • “NW” by Zadie Smith: A characteristically brilliant comic novel about four young people making their way in complicated London.
  • “The Oath: The Obama White House v. the Supreme Court” by Jeffrey Toobin: A surprising look at how two branches of government do—and don’t—get along.
  • “Back to Blood” by Tom Wolfe: Think “Bonfire of the Vanities” goes to Miami. Class, race, politics. It’s all there—in Wolfe’s typically audacious style.
