India’s "$35" tablet Sakshat to ship this Month for $49

Sakshat Tablet

India’s "$35" Sakshat tablet will soon be delivered to IIT Rajasthan by late June, priced at $49 (Rs. 2,200 INR). The Sakshat tablet by HCL will come with a 7 inch touchscreen, inbuilt keyboard, video conferencing facility, multimedia content, Wi-Fi, USB port, Linux OS, 32GB HD, 2 GB RAM and computing capabilities such as Open Office, SciLab and Internet browsing.

The official price would actually Rs. 2200, or around $50. The Indian government, however, is planning on offering a 50% subsidy on purchases, bringing the price below the original $35 estimate. 10,000 would be sent out to Rajasthan this month and 90,000 more to other areas over the summer.
