Apple to Discontinue free iPhone Bumper Case Program on September 30

 Apple has announced that it will stop sending out free iPhone 4 bumper cases on September 30.

Here’s the quote from Apple’s site:-

  We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.

  You can get an iPhone 4 Bumper or case at no charge if you purchased an iPhone 4 before September 30, 2010, follow these steps to receive an iPhone 4 Bumper or a select third-party case from Apple at no charge.

1. Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.
2. Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
3.Select your Bumper or case.

  For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.

Due to high demand, customer orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis.

Apple today announced that iPhone 4S, will be available in China and 21 additional countries on Friday, January 13.

iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Top Two Million in First 24 Hours

Apple today announced pre-orders of its iPhone 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.

iPhone 5 will be available at 356 Apple retail stores in the US beginning at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, September 21. Every customer who buys an iPhone 5 at an Apple retail store will be offered free Personal Setup service, helping them customize their iPhone 5 by setting up email, showing them new apps from the App Store and more, so they'll be up and running with their new iPhone before they leave the store.

Apple introduces iOS 4.3

Apple introduced iOS 4.3, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. New features in iOS 4.3 include faster Safari mobile browsing performance with the Nitro JavaScript engine; iTunes Home Sharing; enhancements to AirPlay; the choice of using the iPad side switch to either lock the screen rotation or mute the audio; and the Personal Hotspot feature for sharing an iPhone 4 cellular data connection over Wi-Fi.

The Safari mobile browsing experience gets even better with iOS 4.3. The Nitro JavaScript engine that Apple pioneered on the desktop is now built into WebKit, the technology at the heart of Safari, and more than doubles the performance of JavaScript execution using just-in-time compilation. With the Nitro JavaScript engine, Safari provides an even better mobile browser experience working faster to support the interactivity of complex sites you visit on a daily basis.

Virgin Mobile to offer iPhone 4 and 4S on June 29th

Virgin Mobile USA announced it will offer iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S to its prepaid customers beginning Friday, June 29th. Both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will be available with Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans for $35 per-month or $30 when registering for automatic payments.

iPhone Dev-Team announces a baseband downgrade option for iPhone 3GS, 3G

The iPhone Dev-Team has announced a baseband downgrade option in RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 for those who are using the iPad’s 06.15 baseband on the iPhone3G or iPhone3GS.

Typically you'd have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04. With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before). This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.

Steps:
1. Use the "Extras->Select IPSW" button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn't hurt for them to do it too).
2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone ("slide to power off"). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!
3. Go back to the first screen and click "Jailbreak". Enable the "Downgrade from iPad baseband" checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

Note: The "Flashing Baseband" step TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete (3-8 minutes).

For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is "yes" for 3G owners, and "maybe" for 3GS owners. The iPad baseband is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!

Unlock iPhone 4S without Jailbreaking

A new unlock method has surfaced which claims to work without the need of any software, hardware or jailbreak. A bug in iOS 5 discovered by Michael Capozzi theoretically allows any iPhone 4S to be unlocked to any GSM carrier. However, Capozzi says he was only able to test with T-Mobile. Note:- You will need to cut the T-Mobile SIM card so it fits into the Micro-SIM card slot in the iPhone 4S.
