Samsung unveils Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy mini 2 Gingerbread Smartphones

Samsung today announced two new additions to the Galaxy smartphone range: Galaxy Ace 2, which will be available in UK from April, and Galaxy mini 2, which will be available in France from March before being rolled out globally.

Galaxy Ace 2 is powered by 800MHz dual-core processor running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) features 3.8-inch WVGA(480x800) PLS TFT, HSDPA 14.4 connectivity, 5 MP Auto Focus Camera with Flash (rear), VGA in front, 768MB RAM, a 4GB internal storage and a 1,500mAh battery. Samsung to Combine HDD Operations into Seagate

Samsung and Seagate, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Seagate and Samsung will significantly expand and strengthen their strategic relationship by further aligning their respective ownership, investments and key technologies. Major elements of the agreement include:

• Samsung combining its hard disk drive (HDD) operations into Seagate
• Extending and enhancing the existing patent cross-license agreement between the companies
• A NAND flash memory supply agreement under which Samsung will provide Seagate with its market-leading semiconductor products for use in Seagate’s enterprise solid state drives (SSDs), solid state hybrid drives and other products
• A disk drive supply agreement under which Seagate will supply disk drives to Samsung for PCs, notebooks and consumer electronics
• Expanded cooperation between the companies to co-develop enterprise storage solutions
• Samsung receiving significant equity ownership in Seagate
• A shareholder agreement under which an executive of Samsung will be nominated to join Seagate’s Board of Directors

The combined value of these transactions and agreements is approximately $1.375 billion USD, which will be paid by Seagate to Samsung in the form of 50% stock and 50% cash.

These transactions and related strategic agreements will enable both companies to better align their current and future product development efforts and roadmaps, accelerate time-to-market for new products and position the companies to better address rapidly evolving opportunities in markets including, but not limited to, mobile computing, cloud computing and solid state storage. In connection with its strategic alliance with Samsung, Seagate expects also to strengthen its relationship with TDK Corporation/SAE Magnetics (H.K.) Ltd. Together, these transactions and agreements broaden a strategic relationship between Seagate and Samsung that began with a joint development agreement announced in August 2010.

Seagate expects these transactions and agreements to be meaningfully accretive to non-GAAP diluted earnings per share and cash flow within the first full year following the closing, and Seagate does not expect any material restructuring costs in connection with them.

The transactions and agreements significantly expand Seagate’s customer access in China and Southeast Asia. In addition, the mutual supply agreements enable Seagate to secure an important source of leading-edge NAND flash supply as the company expands its SSD and solid state hybrid product offerings, and position Seagate to be a more significant supplier of disk drives to Samsung. The agreement also gives Samsung a significant ownership position in Seagate.

Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will receive consideration consisting of 50% Seagate ordinary shares and 50% cash. Upon closing, Samsung will receive Seagate ordinary shares valued at $687.5 million (45.2 million shares, or approximately 9.6% ownership of Seagate, which is based on Seagate’s 30-day volume weighted average stock price prior to signing), plus $687.5 million in cash. Samsung will have a right to designate a nominee to j oin Seagate’s Board of Directors following closing.

The agreement has no financing contingencies, and is subject to customary closing conditions, including review by U.S. and international regulators. The transactions are expected to close by the end of calendar year 2011.

Samsung’s 8GB microSDHC card Class 4 Review

Few days back, I received Samsung’s 8GB class 4 microSDHC card from the Memory Card Zoo for reviewing it which claims to be the waterproof, shockproof and magnet proof. We will figure out, whether these claims are true or it’s just a marketing strategy..

But before testing Samsung’s bold claim-firstly check out the performance result of 8GB class 4 microSDHC card.

1. This test is conducted on a Windows 7 OS using USB data cable.

2. Above result is taken from Samsung Galaxy 5 smartphone running Android 2.1 using SDtool and you’ll notice the read speed of ~5-7MB/s and write speed is 13-15MB/s. (after testing 5 times).

So the result is pretty much same as Samsung have mentioned (more specs and features at the end of this review).

Is it shock proof?

Samsung website says it’s OK to step on the card, so I kicked it and jumped on this card more than 3-4 times and this little Samsung 8GB microSDHC card was unfazed.

So, the answer is YES, it is shock-proof.

Is it magnet proof?

Samsung site claims that it’s safe from X-ray and magnet. I don’t have an X-ray machine so I can’t test this but the magnet test? I did test Samsung 8GB class 4 microSDHC card with magnet by introducing it to the fridge magnet many times and this is not it, I even introduce it to the speaker’s magnet and once again nothing happened--it’s working very well.

Is it waterproof?

I left this test for the last, because I don’t want to risk losing this card very quickly. I kept this card in a mug of water for more than 6 hours (I want to place it for more than 20 hours but I’m little impatient in this case as Samsung claims that the card can live in seawater for up to 24 hours)

Want to know what happened next? It survived! as it is covered with EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound) to protect Samsung NAND flash memory chips from the threat of water and dust.

After testing Samsung big claims, we’re finally sure of the fact that this is not a marketing strategy--Samsung’s 8GB MicroSDHC class 4 card really is shock proof, water proof and magnet proof.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Announced

At the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event held today at IFA, in Berlin, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note II featuring a 5.5-inch (140.9mm) HD Super AMOLED screen, a 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor and HSPA Plus or 4G LTE connectivity. The Galaxy Note II powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, comes with an 8 megapixel rear-facing and 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording including memory options of 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB with an expandable micro SD memory slot and 3,100mAh battery.

Samsung N350 the world’s first LTE-HSPA+ dual mode embedded netbook

  At IFA, Samsung introduced the N350 netbook that has the capability to connect to both 3G+ HSPA networks and 4G LTE networks. Samsung N350 netbook has 1.66GHz Atom N455 with 1GB of DDR3 memory, 10.1 inches of matte display, 1024 x 600 pixel of resolution and a 250GB hard drive. Samsung launches Dual SIM smartphones-Galaxy Y DUOS and Galaxy Y Pro DUOS

Samsung today announced the latest additions to the Galaxy smartphone series, Samsung Galaxy Y DUOS and Samsung Galaxy Y Pro DUOS. Galaxy Y DUOS packs 3.14-inch QVGA(240x320) TFT LCD display,  powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread running on a powerful 832MHz processor, three megapixel camera, microSD storage that's expandable up to 32GB. The only difference in Galaxy Y Pro DUOS is its smaller 2.6-inch LQVGA TFT screen, to make space for the physical keyboard below and the front VGA camera.

Samsung and Verizon Introduce the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with 4G LTE

Verizon and Samsung today announced the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with 4G LTE which will be available in coming weeks. Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)

Over a week ago, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.o) and today company announced it’s 10.1-inch variant the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1). This 10.1-inch tablet features a 1GHz dual-core processor, 10.1-inch WXGA(1280x800) PLS TFT display, 1GB of RAM, VGA front camera, 3MP rear camera,  Bluetooth 3.0, 16GB/32GB memory, a microSD slot and running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Samsung intros SSD 830 Series

Samsung, announced today its new lineup of advanced internal solid state drives (SSDs), the Samsung SSD 830 series, will be available in October to consumers.

The new drives incorporate a high-performance Serial ATA Revision 3.0 interface, doubling the data bandwidth of Samsung's previous SSD product, the SSD 470 series. Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) with Android 4.0

Samsung expands its Galaxy Tab lineup with Galaxy Tab 2 running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 offers WSVGA(1024x600) PLS TFT display features 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 3MP rear camera, VGA front camera, Bluetooth and HSPA+ support. No word yet on pricing but starting from UK, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) will be launched in global market from March.

Samsung unveils Audio Dock for Galaxy S and Apple devices

Samsung and Microsoft join forces for Windows Phone 7 products

Yesterday, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, announced the completion of an agreement to use the Windows Phone 7 platform and related application software as a key component of Samsung's smartphone portfolio.

With the signing of this contract, Samsung makes a long term commitment to including Windows Phone 7 in its smartphone portfolio. Samsung plans to launch several models based on Windows Phone 7 this year in the US, Europe and Asia.
