T-Mobile unveils Full Lineup for Upcoming season: Nexus 4, HTC 8X, Lumia 810 to land November 14

T-Mobile, today unveiled its full lineup of smartphones, tablets and innovative services for the upcoming season. Featuring the newest Windows Phone 8 devices, including the Nokia Lumia 810 and the Windows Phone 8X by HTC; the Google Nexus 4 with T-Mobile as a premier launch partner; and the Samsung Galaxy Note II featuring premium gaming experiences from world-class partners such as EA and MOGA.

Windows Phone 8

T-Mobile will have two Windows Phone 8 devices - the Nokia Lumia 810 and the Windows Phone 8X by HTC.

The Nokia Lumia 810 is an exclusive to T-Mobile and offers access to T-Mobile’s fastest 4G network (HSPA+42), an enhanced camera with Carl Zeiss optics for crisp photographs, impactful design, integrated wireless charging via swappable back covers, navigation features and high-performance – all in a simple silouhette.

  Panasonic, today announced the newest member of its Toughbook U1 ultra-mobile PC product family, the Toughbook U1 Ultra.

The new Toughbook U1 Ultra is equipped with a TransflectivePlus display for up to 6000 nit viewability in direct sunlight, 64GB solid state hard drive, 2GB of memory, an Intel Atom Processor (Z530 1.6Ghz) and Windows 7.

Microsoft  announced that T-Mobile and Xerox Corp. have adopted the Windows Azure platform and are creating new services and gaining greater efficiencies through cloud computing. This announcement comes as Microsoft celebrates the one-year anniversary of Windows Azure Platform availability.

The Windows Azure platform has enabled T-Mobile and Xerox to address customer needs quickly with innovative solutions that are cost-effective and reliable.

T-Mobile

Wireless services provider T-Mobile was preparing to create Family Room, a new mobile software application that helps families share photos and coordinate activities, like a family movie night, across multiple devices. Working under a tight deadline, the developers chose Windows Azure and SQL Azure, along with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Windows Phone 7, as the solution to fit their needs.

By using the Windows Azure cloud services and integrated development environment, T-Mobile was able to create and launch Family Room in just six weeks. Using a cloud-based computing environment has also cut down on management duties and freed up T-Mobile’s developers to spend more time creating new features.

Xerox

As an industry leader in managed print services (MPS), Xerox expanded its MPS capabilities in 2010 by introducing Xerox Mobile Print, a solution that allows its workers to send documents to any printer in the company from a handheld device, such as their smartphone.

Xerox has since expanded on that concept to create Xerox Cloud Print, a cloud-based printing service that allows end users to route a printing job to any available public printer directly from their mobile devices. Now, when employees are traveling on business, they can do things like quickly print a presentation for tomorrow’s client meeting without having to spend countless hours at a local hotel business center. By running Windows Azure and SQL Azure, developers were able to build Xerox Cloud Print in just four months.

Nokia–Microsoft Partnership: Is It Good For Us?

As Akshat mentioned a few days back, Nokia and Microsoft have entered into a strategic partnership wherein Nokia will build phones that work with Windows Phone 7, and will ditch its own efforts towards a mobile friendly operating system (Meego). Even though Intel mentioned that it will continue working on Meego, but Nokia pulling the plug essentially means there won’t be many takers of Meego, at least in mobile universe.

Now, coming back to Nokia – Microsoft partnership. In general, most of the people took this news in a positive manner. In general I am also one of those who believe that it is a great news. Till now iPhone and Android had been fighting it alone in the consumer mobile space. Blackberry is also there, but it still has the corporate feel to it, and it is not a popular choice among consumers. This is also because of the fact that Android phones are available at virtually every price point.

This limited competition meant that people were not able to get the same experience on their mobile phones as the experience they were having on their desktop / laptop computers.

Windows was trying hard to make a dent in Mobile world, and Windows Phone 7 could be considered as the first successful attempt from Microsoft in that direction. However, it could be successful only if lot of devices come out carrying Windows Phone 7, which in turn leads to lot of people using Windows Phone 7, which in turn leads to more and more developers creating apps for this OS. Because, at the end of the day, it is all about apps.

Now, let’s talk about Nokia. Nokia has been the largest producer of mobile phones in the world, but iPhone and Android made it really lag behind in terms of smart phones. Nokia had been trying to fight on its own by keeping pumping money into its Symbian OS, and then collaborating with Intel on Meego. Meego was actually quite good, I did get a chance to try Meego on Netbook earlier, and just loved it. However, Meego is still not completely ready for Mobile phones. It is still not there today, where iPhone was a few years back, and iPhone has come ahead a long way since then.

If Nokia had to stay alive in this mobile phone universe, then it had to do something radical. Partnering with Apple was of course not an option. So, only option left was to choose between Android and Windows Phone 7. Many people would have thought that Android would have been a better choice, but I agree with Nokia’s choice of going with Microsoft. This is the only thing that will let them present an offering that is different from their competitors.

From our perspective, this is quite an awesome news. This means that there is now strongest competition in the smartphone arena. iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone 7 will fight out each other. And the end result of such competition is always beneficial for customers. We will get even better phones, that are even cheaper than the phones out there. And growth will continue like that. Windows and Nokia partnership will also ensure that smartphones come at even less than $100 price point, so that more and more people can use it. Nokia is the best mobile phone manufacturer to create cheap phones that have a great quality. And Windows Phone 7 will be a nice companion to those phones.

However, only people who were really infuriated with this news were people who develop apps for Meego and Symbian. They feel Nokia has betrayed them, as they have been supporting Nokia since so many years. I would feel the same if I was one of them.

But right now, I am just glad that this partnership happened, and eagerly looking forward to first Nokia Phone 7 (nice name – isn’t it ;) ).

Samsung and Microsoft join forces for Windows Phone 7 products

Yesterday, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, announced the completion of an agreement to use the Windows Phone 7 platform and related application software as a key component of Samsung's smartphone portfolio.

With the signing of this contract, Samsung makes a long term commitment to including Windows Phone 7 in its smartphone portfolio. Samsung plans to launch several models based on Windows Phone 7 this year in the US, Europe and Asia.

Qualcomm announced that Qualcomm and Microsoft are collaborating to enable Qualcomm’s Snapdragon next generation family of mobile processors to power the first generation of upcoming Windows 8-based PCs, becoming one of the only silicon providers to date positioned to support both Windows smartphones and PCs. In addition, Qualcomm’s Gobi mobile Internet connectivity solutions will provide Windows 8-based PCs with wireless 3G/4G connectivity to deliver an always-connected experience.

Qualcomm to demonstrate pre-release Windows 8 on Snapdragon S4 processors with LTE connectivity support

Qualcomm today announced at the 2012 International CES show that it is collaborating with Microsoft Corp. to demonstrate pre-release Windows 8 on Snapdragon S4 processors with LTE connectivity support. Demonstrated on the AT&T 4G LTE network for the first time, Windows 8 powered by Snapdragon with LTE and 3G/4G wireless support enables the connected standby experience with lower power consumption recently demonstrated by Microsoft, and provides Windows 8-based PCs including tablets, convertibles and notebooks with wireless broadband speeds and advanced connectivity solutions to help enable fast, productive experiences for users worldwide. Demonstrations of pre-release Windows 8 on the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 reference hardware tablet with LTE were held during Dr. Paul E. Jacobs' opening keynote address earlier today. Jacobs' keynote was part of the Technology and Evolving Countries (TEC) Program, focused on the role mobile technology plays in global innovation and economic growth in consumer electronics.

By integrating LTE, Qualcomm provides a superior connectivity solution that is easy to use and allows users to take advantage of next-generation networks and stay connected almost anywhere they go. Snapdragon-enabled Windows 8 PCs, including tablets, convertibles and notebooks, will also be enhanced by Qualcomm's mobile Internet connectivity platform, Gobi, which provides advanced 3G/4G connectivity and integrated LTE world mode support. Qualcomm's Gobi 4000 platform allows device manufacturers to offer both LTE/HSPA+ and LTE/EV-DO designs to meet the growing demand for embedded 3G/4G connectivity in mobile devices worldwide.

Nokia Lumia 900 now Official, coming to AT&T’s 4G LTE network

Nokia and AT&T announced the Nokia Lumia 900, the first of Nokia's Windows Phone-based range to feature high-speed LTE connectivity. Coming exclusively to AT&T in the coming months in cyan and matte black, the Nokia Lumia 900 has a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack Display (800X480), a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8055 + MDM9200 processor, a 512MB RAM,running Mango Commercial Release 2 (Mango + LTE) (Windows Phone 7.5) and has an 16GB of internal storage.  If we talk about camera, there's an 8-megapixel primary camera with a 28mm f/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens and 1-megapixel with an f2.4 lens and 30fps capture front-facing camera. There’s a 1840mAH battery which will last for about 7hrs talk-time and up to 300hrs on standby. Other features include, a Bluetooth, WiFi,  USB 2.0 high-speed, A-GPS and there's no word on pricing yet.
