Acer updating AcerCloud with support for Android, iOS

Acer announced cross-platform support for AcerCloud, the company's file sharing and media management solution, free to Acer customers. Consumers can now share, retrieve and enjoy their multimedia and data files using a variety of computing devices, regardless of which operating system they are running – Windows, Android or iOS.

Additionally, a new "Remote Files" feature let you access any of your Windows PCs from Android and iOS device. Other enhanced features of AcerCloud include- AcerCloud Docs, lets you push their Microsoft Office documents across different devices, while PicStream feature does the same thing with your photos. The new version of AcerCloud will be available for online update starting in January 2013, and will be bundled on all Acer consumer PCs starting in Q2 2013.

Verizon launches Mobile Security App for Android

Verizon announced Verizon Mobile Security, an application that helps customers secure and protect Android smartphones against digital and physical threats. The Mobile Security app is powered by Asurion and McAfee is available in two (Free and Premium) version on Android smartphones running Android 2.1 or higher.

Verizon Mobile Security Basic – Provides antivirus protection, powered by McAfee, to detect viruses and malware, and McAfee SiteAdvisor to identify and warn customers of suspicious websites. There is no charge to download Verizon Mobile Security Basic, but a Verizon Wireless data plan is required and data usage will apply.

Verizon Mobile Security Premium – Includes the security features of Verizon Mobile Security Basic, as well as McAfee App Alert, which delivers information about which apps have the ability to access, store or transmit data to or from the device. Available for $1.99/month per line, Verizon Mobile Security Premium also provides recovery features from Asurion that allow customers to remotely locate, alarm, lock or wipe data from a lost or misplaced device using their My Verizon accounts.

Verizon customers who are subscribed to the Total Equipment Protection insurance plan can add Verizon Mobile Security Premium for $1 per month. Box for Windows Phone now Available in Marketplace for Free

Online storage service provider Box launched its first app for the Windows Phone platform, which is now available for free download from Windows Phone Marketplace. The Box for Windows Phone app has all the features offered to other platforms such as Android and iOS. These includes the ability to view, share, upload; invite others to shared folders and leave comments on files; search files; performing bulk actions on files/folders like move, copy, delete and naming; application-specific passcode lock; pin Live Tiles to your Start screen to see when colleagues leave updates on Box.

Sony released new updates for its Music Unlimited Service Android smartphones and tablets apps. Music Unlimited Android Tablet app v1.4 delivers Offline Playback, giving users the ability to enjoy music even when a 3G or Wi-Fi connection isn’t available, or when they want to conserve battery life or curb data usage.

Music Unlimited Android Mobile app v1.4 update let users to access the "My Channels" feature which gives them the ability to create and control customized radio stations built around a favorite artist. New update also includes 30 second "preview mode" available without any account and adds move APK to SD card on supported devices.

Both the Music Unlimited app for tablets and smartphones are free to download from Google Play store though some features require a monthly subscription in order to access them.

Zoho Office Suite Integrated into Google Drive

Zoho productivity applications - Zoho Writer word processor, Zoho Sheet spreadsheet and Zoho Show presentation for Google Drive are available today for Free. You can get all of them from Chrome Web Store link below.

Zoho Office Apps in Google Drive

Users can add Zoho applications to Google Drive using the “Manage apps” option in the Settings menu in Google Drive. Once added, Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheet and Zoho Show will appear as options under the “Create” option, to create new documents, spreadsheets and presentations. When users right-click on individual files to open them within Google Drive, the Zoho applications will appear under the “Open with” option.

When a user saves Zoho documents, spreadsheets or presentations in Google Drive, the files are stored in Google Drive and automatically synchronized with that user’s other desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet devices - assuming those devices are also connected to Google Drive.

Files uploaded from a desktop, as well as native Google files, can be opened using the Zoho Office applications. While editing existing documents, a copy of a document is created and saved in Zoho Office formats - .zdoc for documents, .zsheet for spreadsheets and .zslides for presentations - leaving the original document untouched.

Users can also invite their Google contacts to collaborate on their Google Drive documents and edit them using Zoho editors in real time. Based on the permissions, users will be allowed to access the document for collaboration.

Facebook SDK 3.0 Beta for iOS now Available for Download

Facebook released the beta version of Facebook SDK 3.0 for iOS which allows developers to create Facebook-integrated apps and will automatically use the native Facebook Login in iOS 6 when it becomes available, which will ensure that apps will work seamlessly on all iOS versions 4.0 and later.

Facebook SDK 3.0 Beta new features:

1. Better user session management: In the past, managing auths, user sessions and tokens was hard. We've spent a lot of time working to make these takes easier for you. This release introduces FBSession, which manages, stores and refreshes user tokens with default behaviors you can override. It uses the block metaphor to notify your app when a user's token changes state.

2. Ready-to-Use Native UI Views: This SDK release includes a variety of pre-built user interface (UI) components for common functions. You can quickly drop them into your apps instead of building each one from scratch or using dialogs. This gives you a fast, native and consistent way to build common features.

• FBProfilePictureView lets you display a user’s profile picture.
• FBPlacePickerViewController allows users to query the Facebook Places database to find nearby options and check in.
• FBFriendPickerViewController, with single and multi-selection options, enables users to easily select friends. This supports filtering friends by device type and application authorization status.

3. Modern Objective-C language features support: With Automatic Reference Counting (ARC), you no longer have to spend as much time on memory management. Support for blocks means that it’s now more straightforward to handle sessions and calls to asynchronous Facebook APIs. This, along with inclusion of key language features like idiomatic API naming and KVO, allows you to transition seamlessly between the Facebook SDK and Apple’s iOS environment.

4. Improved Facebook APIs support: We have enabled batching for SDK requests to significantly improve latency for Facebook API calls, which translates to much faster access times for API requests. Support for strongly typed Objective-C types for graph actions and objects makes programming against the social graph more concise and easier. This combined with our action publishing API makes it easier to publish Open Graph actions to people’s timelines

The company has also introduced a new iOS Dev Center that will help developers quickly access tools and resources needed for iOS.
