Samsung, today announced the launch of the flagship 4" chic smartphone Wave 3, the social-powerhouse Wave M and the smart-start Wave Y.

Google Shutting Down Knol, Wave and More

Google’s cleanup marathon continues, as Google in their "off-season spring cleaning series," has announced that it is getting rid of seven more services including once-hyped Wave, Knol and Friend connect.

Read the list of services after the break with their end date.

1. Google Bookmarks Lists-This is an experimental feature for sharing bookmarks and collaborating with friends, which is going to end on December 19, 2011.
2. Google Friend Connect-Friend Connect allows webmasters to add social features to their sites by embedding a few snippets of code. Google retiring the service for all non-Blogger sites on March 1, 2012.
3. Google Wave-Google already stopped development on Google Wave over a year ago. But as of January 31, 2012, Wave will become read-only and you won’t be able to create new ones. On April 30 we will turn it off completely. You’ll be able to continue exporting individual waves using the existing PDF export feature until the Google Wave service is turned off.
4. Knol- Launched in 2007 to help improve web content by enabling experts to collaborate on in-depth articles. In order to continue this work,Google have been working with Solvitor and Crowd Favorite to create Annotum, an open-source scholarly authoring and publishing platform based on WordPress. Knol will work as usual until April 30, 2012, and you can download your knols to a file and/or migrate them to WordPress.com. From May 1 through October 1, 2012, knols will no longer be viewable, but can be downloaded and exported. After that time, Knol content will no longer be accessible.
5. Google Gears-In March Google said goodbye to the Gears browser extension for creating offline web applications and stopped supporting new browsers. On December 1, 2011, Gears-based Gmail and Calendar offline will stop working across all browsers, and later in December Gears will no longer be available for download. It is to help incorporate offline capabilities into HTML5.
6. Google Search Timeline-Google removing this graph of historical results for a query. Users will be able to restrict any search to particular time periods using the refinement tools on the left-hand side of the search page. Additionally, users who wish to see graphs with historical trends for a web search can use google.com/trends or google.com/insights/search/ for data since 2004. For more historical data, the "ngram viewer" in Google Books offers similar information.
7. Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal (RE<C)-This initiative was developed as an effort to drive down the cost of renewable energy, with an RE<C engineering team focused on researching improvements to solar power technology. At this point, other institutions are better positioned than Google to take this research to the next level. So, Google have stopped their efforts.

Samsung Announces Bada- powered Wave II

Samsung Announces bada Developer Day on November 3rd

Samsung today announced that it will be hosting its second bada Developer Day in the UK which will take place in London on Thursday 3rd November. The event follows the launch of bada 2.0 in August and aims to encourage more developers and brands to incorporate bada 2.0 into their application strategy.

The event will include a mixture of sessions hosted by Samsung, a look at how apps are changing consumer behaviour and future trends that will change the mobile market, as well as demonstrations of the updated bada platform and latest bada 2.0 devices, including the Wave III.

Attendees will receive an introduction to bada 2.0 and a demonstration of the key differences and enhanced features of the updated platform, such as multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, Near Field Communication (NFC) and voice recognition. They will hear about the future of the bada platform and its USPs in comparison to other operating systems and the commercial opportunity for bada 2.0 and Samsung's Wave III.

The event is also a chance for attendees to hear more about the bada 2.0 Power App Race, a global competition celebrating the launch of bada 2.0, and to expand the bada ecosystem. The first 10 bada 2.0 applications to achieve 100,000 downloads at Samsung Apps will be rewarded with a $3,000,000 prize package, including $1,000,000 in cash. The registration period for the bada 2.0 Power App Race ends on 31st December 2011.

In addition, Samsung is launching a high profile UK competition at the bada 2.0 Developer Day with a cash prize of £100,000 for the most innovative initial local concept idea for an app, and a runner-up prize of £50,000. The winners will be announced at Appsworld in November.

A third competition is also running in the UK and Ireland, the bada Student Developer Challenge, where students at participating universities can join 24-hour 'code-athons' to try out their bada 2.0 coding skills. The winning team will receive £15,000.

The audience at the free event will consist of developers, company representatives, journalists and bloggers. The Samsung bada 2.0 Developer Day will be held on November 3rd at OXO2, South Bank, London.

The UK Developer Day is part of a series, with events having taken place in Spain, Iran, India, China and the Ukraine already this year. Samsung is also giving members of the public the chance to win a pair of tickets to the event and a Wave III handset each by entering competitions hosted on the Samsung Facebook and Twitter pages. TomTom maps to power the Samsung Wave 3 smartphone

TomTom has signed a strategic deal with Samsung whereby TomTom maps and location content will power the Wave 3 smartphone. TomTom will provide information to support daily location needs of Wave3 users, from navigation to search and find.

The agreement gives Samsung access to TomTom global maps and premium location content including:

• Map coverage for over 200 countries globally, providing over 35 million kilometres of road network

Microsoft Shows New Features and Future Direction for Windows Phone 7

Microsoft today kicked off Mobile World Congress by giving people a glimpse of what the rest of the year will bring for Windows Phone 7. Among the updates are several new features, a booming app marketplace, and the integration of even more Microsoft products with the phone.

Microsoft announced several new Windows Phone 7 features coming in 2011, including a “dramatically enhanced” browser experience based on Internet Explorer 9; additional multitasking capabilities; support for Microsoft Office documents in the cloud; and the addition of Twitter to the People Hub. The expanded capabilities announced today include:

Intel rolls out Atom Processor Z670 "Oak Trail" for Tablets

Intel Corporation today announced that the Intel Atom platform, formerly codenamed "Oak Trail," is now available and will be in devices starting in May and throughout 2011. Over 35 innovative tablet and hybrid designs from companies including Evolve III, Fujitsu Limited, Lenovo, Motion Computing, Razer, and Viliv are based on "Oak Trail" and running a variety of operating systems.

In addition, at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, the company will give a sneak peak of its next-generation, 32nm Intel Atom platform, currently codenamed "Cedar Trail." This solution will help to enable a new wave of fanless, cool and quiet, sleek and innovative netbooks, entry-level desktops and all-in-one designs.

The new Intel Atom processor Z670, part of the "Oak Trail" platform, delivers improved video playback, fast Internet browsing and longer battery life, without sacrificing performance. The rich media experience available with "Oak Trail" includes support for 1080p video decode, as well as HDMI. The platform also supports Adobe Flash, enabling rich content and Flash-based gaming.

With these significant improvements in power-efficient performance, the Intel Atom processor Z670 allows applications to run on various operating systems, including Google Android, MeeGo and Windows. This unique flexibility delivers both new experiences and more choice when it comes to tablets and hybrid designs that combine the best features of the netbook and tablet together.

New Lenovo Classmate+ PC

Today, Lenovo and Intel Corporation announced the Lenovo Classmate+ PC, a purpose-built laptop designed to improve learning for students in grades K-8.

The Lenovo Classmate+ provides schools an affordable, child-friendly complete hardware and software solution. Based on the Intel Learning Series reference design, the PC will come pre-loaded with the Intel Learning Series software suite, specialized educational software and a variety of teaching resources. Qualcomm and Microsoft to Provide Developers with Snapdragon-Based Windows on ARM Test PCs

Qualcomm announced that its Snapdragon processor will be joining Microsoft's Windows on ARM developer seeding program. Qualcomm is working with Microsoft to provide test PCs to select developers in order to test and optimize apps for forthcoming Snapdragon-powered Windows on ARM PCs and tablets.

This invitation-only program will combine a pre-release version of Windows on ARM with next-generation, high performance Snapdragon S4 test PCs. These test PCs contain Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor with second-generation high performance, power efficient CPU, hardware accelerated Adreno graphics, full multimedia, GPS, sensors, and peripherals that will enable development and test of next-generation Windows Metro style apps for the coming wave of Windows on ARM PCs.

These test PCs are not representative of commercial form factors or the final Windows on ARM experience; they are designed to give developers early access to building and testing Windows Metro style apps on Qualcomm's latest technology.

Samsung Epic- Android 2.2 available beginning 22 February

New Samsung Epic 4G MR EB13 will upgrade the Epic 4G to Android 2.2/Froyo, many updates including Flash Player 10.1, Bluetooth dialing, allows app installs to external storage.

Android 2.2/Froyo will be pushed to Sprint Samsung Epic 4G customers beginning Feb. 21. All users should have access to Android 2.2 by Feb. 25.

This software update (version EB13) will include:

• Upgrade of the Google OS from Éclair to Froyo (2.2.1)
• Ability to install applications to external storage
• Improved Bluetooth device support
• Bluetooth Voice Dialing
• Flash Player 10.1
• GPS Enhancements
• Improved OS performance

UPDATE PROCESS: The software update will be delivered as a wireless download (over-the-air, or OTA) in waves starting on February 21. All Samsung Epic 4G owners should have access to the download by the end of the week (Feb. 25).

Once your Epic is in the queue and eligible to download the update, a message will be pushed to your device saying that a software update is available. If you are not yet in the queue and you attempt to check for a software update manually, you will receive a message saying “no upgrade is available”.  This simply means your device isn’t in the current wave of updates.

All customers should have access to the update by the end of the week (Feb. 25).

HTC phones to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012
